How to move milk between locations
Milk First help center · Updated July 2026
Quick answer: Swipe a bag (or open it) and choose Move: pick the destination and the app handles the clocks. Freezer → fridge automatically starts the 24-hour thawed clock; fridge → freezer records the freeze; and the original pumped date survives every move, exactly as safety rules require.
The moves and their clocks
- Freezer → fridge: the bag becomes thawed milk, due within 24 hours of thawing.
- Fridge → freezer: allowed while fresh (never for previously frozen milk, which the app knows).
- Anywhere → cooler bag or daycare: milk keeps its clock; the location just tells you where the ounces physically are.
Partial moves
Moving 5 oz of an 8 oz container splits it correctly: the moved portion becomes its own tracked bag (with its own label suffix) while the remainder stays put, both still anchored to the original pump date.
