Routing milk after a pump
Milk First help center · Updated July 2026
Quick answer: Finish a pump and choose: Baby drank it, Save to fridge, Freeze it, Add to pitcher, or Split it. Splits let one session feed the baby 3 oz, refrigerate 5, and freeze 2, each portion on its own correct clock. This one question is why your stash numbers stay real.
Each destination, briefly
- Baby drank it: counts in your output stats without touching the stash.
- Fridge: creates a bottle on the 4-day clock.
- Freezer: creates a dated bag with 6-month best-by and 12-month use-by, plus a label to write on the bag.
- Pitcher: pours into today's pitcher, which keeps the oldest milk's clock automatically.
- Split it: any combination of the above from one session.
Never routed? Never lost
Sessions logged without routing show it in Recent pumps, and any pump can be routed later from its detail screen, so milk that sat in a bottle while chaos reigned still ends up counted.
