What is liquid gold?

Pumping glossary; plain language, no fluff · Updated July 2026

Quick answer: Liquid gold is the community's name for breast milk, coined for colostrum's literal golden color and adopted for every hard-won ounce after. The term carries the emotional economics: milk is time, sleep, and effort in liquid form.

In practice

The nickname explains the grief of a spilled bottle and the rage at a freezer failure better than any storage chart can. It is also why waste-prevention systems, dating, FIFO, expiry warnings, feel less like organization and more like guarding treasure.
